As many posts on the Ubuntu forums have stated, the best way to learn is to try, then ask when it doesn't work as expected.  If you're not sure where to start, search the forums for ideas and probably, ready made solutions.  As stated before, if you post to any of the forums, make sure you have checked there is not an answer there already, be as specific as possible with your question and be courteous.
