The Music

Music, and especially Jazz, is a living, breathing thing.  Different musicians will bring different strengths every time a group is assembled.  In a small ensemble jazz, there is very rarely any musical arrangements.  Chord charts and lead lines may be used if the musicians have not learnt the tunes by heart.  These provide a template around which the musicians weave their chord changes and solos to create the complete sound.

So what line up is suitable for my occasion?

If you don't already know the sounds you like, have a listen to the examples in the pages on the right.  You will also want to consider the space available for the musicians, the volume levels required (or not) and of course your budget.

Most bands these days will require power, although for the smaller, or quieter event's using all acoustic instruments is not out of the question but it will complicate things like using a piano of there is no acoustic piano at the venue as pianists will generally bring along an electric instrument.
